Holt Christmas Statement

November 20, 2024

Whilst we have received multiple positive comments regarding our provision of the Christmas trees and lighting it has come to our attention that there has also been an element of negative feedback and comment on social media platforms that we feel should be addressed.

Wherever we develop across Norfolk, we always try to work with the local community to support good causes whilst promoting ourselves as a company. In this regard, it saddened us greatly when, in August of this year, we read in the local media that the Holt Lights had been cancelled this year. Having heard the news, we quickly wanted to establish whether there was anything we could do to help.

Having been advised that, sadly, there was nobody to facilitate the provision of the fantastic Christmas trees and lights that, for so many years, have formed a significant part of Holt’s amazing festive efforts, we immediately committed to funding their provision as a gesture of goodwill to the community of Holt.

Following the trees and lights being put in situ last week concerns have been raised as to the provision and appearance of the crowd/pedestrian barriers that have been put around the trees. These are a health and safety requirement following a risk assessment carried out by a third party. Without these, the trees would not have been allowed to be lit up, given that there is a live electrical feed to the Christmas trees.

Further concerns have been raised regarding the Norfolk Homes displays on the pedestrian barriers, specifically regarding the War Memorial. We would like to put on record that we are in no way trying to detract from the significance of the War Memorial, and we apologise for any offence our banners might have caused in this regard.  As such, whilst it should be acknowledged that the banners are not in any way on the War Memorial itself, we have taken the comments on board.

We are an approachable local company and have been responding to any correspondence we have directly received regarding this matter. It has, as a result, dismayed us that there has been an element of vandalism to the barriers/banners and that people have decided to take matters into their own hands rather than make contact with us directly.  Whilst we are disappointed with these actions, we as a company are committed to honouring our pledge to provide the trees and lighting.  In the spirit of goodwill to all, we have reduced both the number of barriers and banners that surround the trees in the hope that the community of Holt can unite and enjoy the trees in full this  Christmas.

Finally, we would like to congratulate Festive Holt for putting on an amazing weekend of festive fun last weekend. You only had to look at the smiles on all the faces to see what a fantastic event it was.
